The Government of Nepal has introduced a new directive requiring all government employees to remain at their workstations from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and provide uninterrupted services to the public throughout office hours. The decision comes as part of a broader effort to improve efficiency, accountability, and the overall quality of public service delivery across government offices. According to the new guideline, offices must ensure that services are not disrupted at any point during working hours. To achieve this, employees have been instructed to take lunch breaks in a shift-wise system, allowing work to continue without interruption. The government has also officially banned the long-standing practice of extended “khaja breaks”, which often caused delays and forced service seekers to wait for extended periods. Authorities believe that eliminating such practices will significantly reduce inefficiencies and improve public trust in government institutions.
