Journalist Umesh Chauhan has been appointed as the Group Editor of Himalaya Television Network and Onlinekhabar, marking a major shift in Nepal’s media landscape with the introduction of a unified newsroom model.

The decision was made during a joint meeting of both organizations, signaling a move toward stronger editorial collaboration and integrated content production. With this appointment, Chauhan will lead the development and implementation of a shared editorial strategy across both platforms.

A New Era of Newsroom Integration

Under the newly launched “newsroom convergence” model, Himalaya Television and Onlinekhabar will now operate with coordinated editorial planning, shared resources, and unified content delivery. The goal is to enhance efficiency, improve content quality, and strengthen digital storytelling.

Group Chairman Dharmaraj Bhusal stated that the initiative aims to create a more dynamic and collaborative newsroom environment. He expressed confidence that Chauhan’s leadership will drive innovation, boost productivity, and support the development of modern news products suited for digital audiences.

Experienced Media Professional

With over two decades of experience in journalism, Chauhan has worked across both print and broadcast media. He previously held leadership roles at major national publications, including serving as editor and chief editor in prominent Nepali news organizations.

He holds academic degrees in history, political science, and mass communication, adding strong academic grounding to his editorial expertise.

Chauhan emphasized that modern journalism is evolving rapidly, with audiences shifting toward digital and audio-visual platforms. He described the newsroom not just as a content production unit, but as a “public service platform” that plays a key role in accountability and governance.
