Kathmandu is witnessing negative impacts on its tourism and aviation sectors due to the ongoing Gulf region conflict, as foreign tourists cancel pre-booked flights. In a recent statement, Buddha Air reported that a sharp and unprecedented rise in aviation fuel surcharges has significantly increased airfare costs, in line with existing regulations. Executive Chairman Birendra Bahadur Basnet explained that fuel expenses, which usually account for around 40% of operational costs, have now risen to nearly 50%. Additionally, the strengthening of the US dollar has further increased expenses related to aircraft maintenance, spare parts, and staff training. Despite these challenges, the company remains hopeful that tourism will recover once conditions stabilize and emphasized the importance of cooperation between the government and private sector to support the industry.
