An arrest warrant has reportedly been issued against former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife, former minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged illegal asset accumulation. According to high-level sources, the warrant was obtained by the Department of Money Laundering Investigation from the Kathmandu District Court. Sources said the legal move is linked to a probe examining whether the couple acquired assets through unlawful means during their time in public office. The development marks a significant escalation in the investigation surrounding the financial dealings of the Deuba family. According to the report, authorities have already received court approval for the arrest. However, the couple could not be taken into custody as they are currently outside Nepal. The report states that both Sher Bahadur Deuba and Arzu Rana are presently abroad. This latest move comes amid a broader investigation into the assets of the Deuba family. Earlier reports indicated that officials had collected property details related to the former prime minister and his relatives, while police had also halted demolition work at the family residence in Budhanilkantha over concerns that potential evidence might be destroyed. The case has drawn major political attention, as it involves one of Nepal’s most prominent political families. If confirmed and acted upon once the couple returns to the country, the warrant could have serious political and legal implications in the coming days.
